I just shared this with a client today and thought it might benefit you also!
This tool is introduced in the book Traction, which describes the Entrepreneurial Operating System, or EOS. The first part of their People Analyzer tool is a Value Alignment for promoting, hiring, or even firing people. Here’s a short video explaining how to use it:
You’ll notice that the pre-requisite to using this tool is having your core values well defined. For this client, I used AI to create a starting list based on the type of company she has. Here’s the prompt I used (recreated for a fictitious company):
“In the business world, we like to use company values to create a cultural alignment with employees. In order to do this, we need to have a clear definition of a value, as well as illustrative behaviors that exhibit the value.
I’m looking specifically for a sample list of values for a small Accounting practice. Ultimately, I’ll choose 3-5, but if you could offer 10 or so, that would be great.”
After seeing its response, I further asked AI to provide illustrations for the roles of Accountant, Administrative Support, and Managers. Here’s one of the 10 samples of values, with representative behaviors:
Continuous Learning
- Accountant: Stays updated on tax laws and financial regulations, pursues professional development, and applies new knowledge effectively.
- Administrative Support: Learns new software and office procedures, adapts to industry changes, and supports efficiency improvements.
- Managers: Promote ongoing education, provide training opportunities, and encourage skill development.
From ten samples, you should get a good start on what matters most to you and your company, then continue asking AI to give you more explicit definitions and representative behaviors.
If you’d like to talk more about these tools (the Value Analyzer or AI), please reach out to me. I’m happy to help you move forward in this area.
